New Local Rule
Posted: Thursday 10th June 2010
Slits or Cracks on the Fairways
Due to the current weather conditions the following Local Rule is in operation.
A ball lying on a closely - mown area through the green may be lifted, without penalty and cleaned.
Before lifting the ball, the Player must mark it's position.
Having lifted the ball, he must place it on a spot within 6 inches of and not nearer the hole than where it originally lay, that is not a hazard and not on a Putting Green.
A player may place his ball only once, and it is play when it has been placed.
If the player fails to mark the position of the ball before lifting it or moves the ball in any other manner, such as rolling it with a club, he incurs a penalty of one stroke.
This rule will be updated as necessary.

Looking out of my office window all I can see is a small smattering of snow on the Rough. The CMO informed me that there won't be a trolley ban over the weekend but buggies are still banned I'm afraid.

Thefts at the Club
Posted: Tuesday 27th January 2009
The Club recently suffered two acts of vandalism and theft. The first involved the Shop door being kicked in and the theft of a set of clubs. The door was replaced by a more robust version and faced with a steel sheet. The second, focussed on the Gents Changing Room. The thieves gained access, prized open locker doors and removed 9 sets of high-value clubs and other kit.
In conjunction with the locker makers, AQL, our lockers are being made more secure. In addition a security marking firm is in discussion with us so that we can mark our kit to make it less saleable. The Club has put in place a system to provide more security, whenever large numbers of guests are expected
Whilst we are on the subject, our Insurers were persuaded to provide relief for those folk who weren't covered by their own insurance. Our policy will not pay out if your equipment is already insured under another policy, so if you have high-value kit, please ensure that it is insured to its full value and keep documents to support any claim.

Rutland County driving forward!
Posted: Monday 5th January 2009
In line with the policy to improve facilities,Rutland County Golf Club has just installed Power Tees in 9 of its 20 bay Driving Range. The Range bays are also being widened to accommodate the lower, flat swing.
The Driving Range is open from 7.30am and the floodlights operate from 4.30pm until 7.30pm every evening.
Club House Manager Simone Lowe said ‘I can’t think of any golf club in the area that has such excellent practice facilities as Rutland County; including the Chipping Green, 9-hole Putting Green, Practice Bunker and Chipping Green. The instalment of a practice Fairway Bunker at the side of the Driving Range shows our continuing commitment to improving the Club facilities. The Course is playing better than ever and with all our improvements we see 2009 being a very successful year for Rutland County Golf Club.’
The Driving Range can be kept open for longer by appointment by calling the Club on 01780 460330.
Course Improvements At Rutland County Golf Club.
Posted: Monday 5th January 2009
Jamie Goddard, Head Greenkeeper at Rutland County Golf Club recently started working on the planned improvements to the Course.
The work commenced on 24th November to lengthen the 1st Tee from 347yds to approx 386yds.The Blue Tee will remain for general use but will eventually become the Ladies Tee.
The idea behind this work is to give golfers more challenging play on the 1st and bring the 1st Tee into view from the Clubhouse. With the addition of raised flowerbeds, the work will provide a more pleasant view. Hopefully it will be in play by 1st April 2009.
Whilst carrying out this work several other improvements are under way; several bunkers have been renovated, these include the 2nd, 3rd, and 8th Fairway bunkers. The bunkers have been deepened, reshaped and new drainage installed. The 17th Green-side bunker, as well as being re-shaped and new drainage added, has been made into 2 pot bunkers.Members and Visitors may have noticed the appearance of new distance markers on the Course. These innovative,pop-up devices, come all the way from New Zealand.
The Practice Bunkers have been reshaped into one bunker, which has been made shallower.
The Par 3 Course has not escaped attention; work is ongoing to make the 4th, 5th and 8th holes longer. Some of the Greens are being reshaped and some repositioned.
We would be pleased to receive comments and/or suggestions about the Facilities.
